Family history (medicine) - In medicine, a family history consists of information about disorders that a patient's direct blood relatives have suffered from. Genealogy typically includes very little of the medical history of the family, but the medical history could be considered a specific subset of the total history of a family.

Supplemented by recollections from the present era, Tell Us a Story is a colorful mosaic of African American autobiography family history and family history set in Springfield, Illinois, family history and in rural southern Illinois, Missouri, family history and Arkansas from the 1920s through the 1950s. Shirley Motley Portwood shares rural, African American family family history and community history through a collection of vignettes about the Motley family. Initially transcribed accounts of the Motleys' rich oral history, these stories have been passed among family members for nearly fifty years. In addition to her personal memories, Portwood presents interviews with her father, three brothers, family history and two sisters plus notes family history and recollections from their annual family reunions. The result is a composite view of the Motley family. A historian, Portwood enhances the Motley family story by investigating primary data such as census, marriage, school, family history and land records, newspaper accounts dry directories, family history and other sources. The backbone of this saga, however, is oral history gathered from five generations, extending back to Portwood's grandparents, born more than one hundred years ago. Information regarding two earlier generations -- her great-grandfather family history and great-great-grandparents, who were slaves -- is based on historical research into state archives, county family history and local records, plantation records, family history and manuscript censuses. A rich source for this material -- the Motley family reunions -- are week-long retreats where four generations gather at the John Motley house in Burlington, Connecticut, the Portwood home in Godfrey, Illinois, or other locations. Here the Motleys, all natural storytellers, pass on the family traditions. The stories, rangingfrom humorous to poignant, reveal much about the culture family history and history of African Americans, especially those from nonurban areas. Like many rural African Americans, the Motleys have a rich family history and often joyful family history with traditions reaching back to the slave past.

The Book of Kings is much more than a portrait of a pioneer family; it is actually another history of Bristol viewed from a different angle. It would be virtually impossible to write a complete history of this city without including a record of the pioneer King family. Likewise, it would be very difficult to write of this family family history and not become involved in general Bristol history. Colonel James King, founder of this clan, early settled in the Bristol area, where he became a well-known industrialist family history and community leader. His son, the Rev. James King, became owner of the land upon which the oldest portion of Bristol is located, family history and his son-in-law became her founder. Ever since that founding, Kings family history and their descendants have figured prominently in local history -- family history and continue to do so to this day. A few years after the founding of Bristol, another King family settled in the city. Several members of this family became prominent business persons family history and community leaders, as have many of their descendants. The story of this noted family will be told at another time family history and place. This is volume three of the author's exhaustive history of Bristol. Two more volumes are planned.
